Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state initial examinations show the substance was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in association with the event," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.

An important official commented the vandalism left him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
