Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
