An individual who laced candy with tranquilliser and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offences against two children both nine and 10.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The accused was remanded in custody before a further hearing on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.
The man played a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC explained materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his family member contacted the police about his worries.
She explained the defendant went on to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she added.
The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The prosecutor said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member contacted the law enforcement once more.
She said the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
